Old, New, Borrowed, Blue

My mother's veil, bought for $25 back in the 80's.

You've seen these before. Don't they look better now?

Grandma's heirloom family cameo pin. It's going to look fabulous pinned under the bust of my dress.

At 11 pm tonight I cut INTO my dress and replaced one of the original ivory buttons with a blue cloth covered ones. It won't show when I put the dress on and do it up, and I love that it is my little secret something blue. (Have you detected my love for secret things yet?)

What creative ways did you find to fulfill the old/new/borrowed/blue?

I love the secret blue button!

Well, most of what I'm wearing will be new, my veil, earrings and watch all have blue bits in them, I'm borrowing my mum's watch... but I don't have something old yet... eek! Keep forgetting to ask my mum if she can get my grandmother's ring off her hand...

The button is fabulous!!

Old: I pinned a pearl tie-tack from my great-grandfather, after whom I am named, into my bouquet handle. We also used old rings for our ceremony -- in the Jewish religion, you cannot use rings with any engraving/embellishments for the ceremony itself, and my wedding band is an eternity band with diamonds, so I used my grandfather's wedding ring for the actual ceremony (you also place the ring for the ceremony itself on your pointer finger, so it helped to have a man's ring, since it was big enough to fit!), while my husband used his deceased father's ring during the ceremony.

New: My best friend/maid-of-honor made me a bracelet to wear for the wedding, and I didn't try it on until that morning so it would be brand new!

Borrowed: The rest of my jewelery -- necklace and earrings -- were borrowed from the wife of one of the groomsmen.

Blue: My fabulous shoes!

I love that blue button! So sneaky! I also dig that you've kept the something old, new, borrowed and blue so traditional. My family doesn't have such heirlooms, so i'll have to get creative, but what a great feeling to know you've got 2 generations of women on your person... totally jealous! Love them!!!

I love that you're wearing your mom's veil! I am trying to wear my mom's, but it's aged and we're not sure if we can clean it ... did you have to do any cleaning to your mom's? If so, what did you do?

Are you gonna put the six pence in your shoe as well?

I've failed pretty much myself at the old poem but if there's one thing I'm good at it's having blue things.

I forgot my blue guarder here in Rexburg and didn't realize it until I was home and going through my stuff.

I was very sad. I had everything else covered.

OOOOOOH! I love the secret blue button too!!!
My something old - the handkerchiefs I'll carry on my bouquet, the brooch I'm wearing, and the bracelet I'm wearing
My something new - my dress, my BIRDCAGE VEIL baby!!, my shoes, my hairflower...
My something borrowed - the handkerchiefs that I'll be carrying
My something blue - as of right now, the ties in my dress for the bustle. But I was thinking of some cute underpants...

guilty-I sent out an email to all of the relatives asking for heirlooms. It was amazing to see what treasures had been lurking int he family drawers.

ethidium-the use of your grandfathers ring during the ceremony is so touching. Seriously, where are those recaps?

amyjean-I had to work hard to make the rhyme be filled with items that were so traditional. I didn't want to be cheating at all though. Even if it was just for myself :)

kellyb-I didn't clean it. I like how old and beautiful it looked. I would have been afraid to take it anywhere for fear that it wouldn't be handled properly.

blab-I thought about it, but I was worried I would get blisters!

whitney-I made packing list after packing list. I was lucky and didn't forget a thing.

lol...i considered tying a piece of blue yarn around my ankle....months ago, FI sent me a skean of the softest most beautiful blue yarn...he wanted me to make him a scarf...bless his heart, he didnt realize it wasnt enough to make a proper pair of mittens.

but i decided that i will pin the a picture button under my dress. its of me and my grandfather...taken when i was 2 years old. he's been gone for 4 years now and he was very special to me....this way, i will have a "piece of him" near on that day.
