I'm Melting!

My core body temperature always seems to be 10 degrees higher than what everyones else feels. Which means I am a sweat-er. Not so much an armpit sweat-er, but a makeup-melting, hairline-soaking, red and splotchy face sweat-er. Having pictures on the beach is awesome, but not if my face is going to look like this:

I am planning on bringing blotting sheets, but other than that I have no experience with makeup melting prevention. Usually I just try to accept it and pretend like it isn't happening, but I don't feel like that will be the best method in Mexico. I think I have the mascara and eyeliner covered, but I have no idea what to do about the rest of my dripping face.

Any secrets people would like to share?

I'm right there with you. Man. It's gross and I hate it. I've never really figured out how to deal, but I have a few things that work reasonably well...

The Smashbox LIGHT photo finish primer is good... it's for oily skin, and although my skin is actually really dry, this works well. It seems to cut down on the sweat a bit without feeling like a mask. Sephora sells a mini version ($16, I think) in addition to the full-sized one. Also, Make Up For Ever is the bomb, even though it's expensive. It's definitely worth it for photo situations. And Studio FX products (I think they make a cool Hi-Def powder) are really good.

I'm wondering what you can do about the SPF-shine-in-photos vs. you're-in-Mexican-sun situation. Do you burn easily?

I understand your sweating (it's one of the top reasons for not having a summer wedding!). I have fun that the mineral based products work best for not sweating away and that the "mineral powder" from BareMinerals works really well to tone down the shine and it can be applied as needed, but I know that everyone is different - I just thought I would suggest it :) Too, my photographer said he can eliminate the shine from my face after the fact (we'll see though).

I second a makeup primer. I was recently a bridesmaid on a wedding on the beach and we did our own makeup, and I opted for using a primer. In the pictures, I'm the only one who doesn't look like a melted hot mess. Also, using a mineral powder foundation on top of the primer in lieu of liquid foundation definitely helps -- you'll wind up sweaty and dewy enough looking as is. Also, though it may not look as great, wear your hair up if possible. Wearing your hair down on your neck just holds in heat, and the first place you will sweat if your hair is down is anywhere along your hair line -- including above your forehead. Not pretty!

Also, if you (or anyone else reading) sweats anywhere other than the face (armpit sweating, cleavage sweating, etc), I cannot speak highly enough about the Secret Clinical Strength deodorant! That stuff is amazing -- I can now make my 30 minute walk to and from work in 95 degree/90% humidity every day in the summer, and not show up soaked in sweat!

so, my friend is a ballet dancer (yes, a real, professional one) and her makeup artist sprays a makeup version of hairspray on their faces and necks. her makeup stays on even though she has beads of sweat dripping down her face! i just tried calling her, but no luck. i will keep you posted.

(bride.)-Thanks for the mini version tip on the photo finish primer. I think I will hit up Sephora and just buy everything that looks like a viable option. I'll do something out in the sun on Tuesday to test it all out :)

kelly b-I think that I will have to ditch my favorite foundation for something mineral based. I have been meaning to try them out anyways. Maybe I can go to Nordstrom and convince them to give me a little sample to try....

ethidium-I totally forgot about deodorant (how I do not know). Thanks for the tip!

everyday-Oh oh, please get back to me on that!

Jenna-
If you want to try a free sample of Bare Escentuals mineral foundation, place an order online from Sephora (for, you know, primer! free returns, so try out whatever you want!). Then use the promotion code FOUNDATION at the end -- free sample of Bare Escentuals plus free mini kabuki brush. You have to be a member of Sephora Insiders for it to work, but it is 100% free to sign up (and they don't send you free newsletters or spam your inbox if you don't check the "send me mail" box, honest).
Give it a shot! I just got my free sample in the mail... and disliked part of my purchase quite a bit, so it will be going back.

I second the Secret Clincal Strength. That stuff is the bomb. I too am a sweater, and it has helped me immensely. I would second the makeup primer, and I personally love Bareminerals. It seems to last longer in the heat with me than ordinary foundation.
